Vignettes from the City of Doors

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.

Intro

He slept without stirring, aching bones finally resting on the bed of his youth. Another adventure was complete and yet his mind raced at the new possibilities.

In his dreams he sprinted through a glade alongside woodland fauna. The Fey Wild called to him from a city with impossibly-tall spires. He saw a feast laid out before him. Maidens danced and plucked at lutes while the warm summer air renewed his hopes. The Prince-King of the Eladrin smiled uneasily.

Noise! The old hero sprang out of bed and unsheathed his sword in a single motion. The sound of his sword scraping the scabbard echoed, reverberated, and began to sing. A figure emerged from the shadows of the hallway, into the moonlight. A woman, pain manifest, with a halo of spinning sword blades approached. Her eyes glowed; he feared for life itself.

She pointed to the parchment scroll in his hand. Shaking, he unrolled it and read:

For the unforgivable assassination of the Prince-King, for the pain you have caused to an entire realm, you are banished to my Maze forever. -Lady of Pain

Before he could protest he was plunged into darkness. He felt around for his tinderbox; the only sound was his panicked breathing. He squinted as the torch ignited. “Where am I? What is this?” The only response was his own echoes. Before him, twisty little passages – all alike.

A Murder Party
A murderer strikes in the midst of an archfey celebration.

DM: Jake

Party:
  • Rokjak Anvilsmak
  • Paldrith
  • Eslian Keslador
  • Blocter
  • Morg

A ship burns in the night.

Five passengers cling to its scattered wreckage. As they watch, the dragon responsible for the attack flew away with its minions. Darkness claimed them as the burning ship slipped beneath the waves.

The scent of cloves, carried on the wind, envelops them. The survivors deduce that the direction of the wind might indicate safety. They swim into the wind, clinging to debris to keep afloat. As day breaks, they see a small island ahead.

The surviving travelers land on the beach. They look around and bicker, but soon they notice ornate boats further down the strand. The boats appear to be of eladrin make, richly decorated as one might expect of boats belonging to the nobility. Rokjak runs toward the interior of the island looking for whoever the boats belong to, and the rest of the group follows after.

Rokjak reaches a wooded dell filled with pavilions, food, drink, and noble archfey. The archfey assume that he, as well as the rest of the group, are also guests invited to a party held by the Lady of Spices. They are introduced to various nobles and spend their time enjoying the party. Paldrith, as befits his nature, bides his time by building a maze with the tables of food, a maze which Rokjak fails to solve.

In the early evening, a woman screams out! The partygoers rush to the scene and find that a murder has occured! A high-ranking archfey of the Sea Lords has been killed by a dagger to the chest. As a storm sets in, blocking egress from the island, the Lady of Spices declares that the murderer must be found for the good of all. Eslian proceeds to leap headfirst into the investigation. He interrogates the partygoers as to their alibis and thoughts on the murder. Almost all believe that someone else at the party did the deed, though one expresses the notion that the murder was faked and that the dead archfey arranged it to leave his military position. Soon they group finds one of the partygoers whose whereabouts were not certain right before the murder, and Paldrith identifies a type of thistle on the presumed murderer’s pants that is not present on the part of the island he claimed to be on.

The murderer is restrained and presented to the Lady of Spices. He confesses, and the murdered archfey arrives in the dell, stating that he was pleased they’d finally unraveled the mystery and that he was pleased to stop playing a corpse. The Lady of Spices announces that her murder mystery retreat was a success! She rewards the adventurers by teleporting them to her personal prison island – they did crash the party, after all.

The only way out is through!

The survivors of the ship arrive on a lonely, windswept island filled with scrubby vegetation. The Lady of Spices informed the group that she would release them once she felt they had learned their lesson. An example of how long that could take approached shortly in the form of an eladrin who had been prisoner on the island for decades.

The Lady found that she could not teleport away; the newly-arrived eladrin had bound her there with with rituals tied to the island’s unique properties. The Lady quickly concluded a deal with the party whereby she would transport them elsewhere in exchange for their assistance against her assailants. The party consented, and the fight began.

The party and their adversaries approached each other with caution. A narrow, swiftly flowing creek separated the two groups, and each was hesitant to cross except in force. The adventurers attempted an amphibious assault first, advancing to the shore held by their enemies. Although the party held most of the hostile combatants to the far shore, a gladiator escaped a melee in the watercourse and charged toward Rokjak. The seeker evaded him handily, and the gladiator returned to the fray and more plentiful enemies.

An eladrin coure managed a ferocious stab before vanishing without trace as the Lady’s accuser struggled against three combatants in a fierce whirlwind of blades. A brace of weak fighters on the enemy shore fell quickly to the party’s swift and punishing assault. The coure’s magic struck all but the seeker as the gladiator returned to draw blood from the party. Soon all the enemies were slain, and the Lady of Spices delightedly fulfilled her end of the bargain.

Whale Rustlers
It's a serious problem in some parts of the Feywild.

The Lady of Spices teleports the prisoners who fought on her behalf off her prison island, as well as a few others who are swept along in the magic. She brings them to a point high above a range of mountains in the Feywild, mountains with needle-like, snowcapped peaks soaring above the clouds. The party admires the view for only a fraction of a moment before gravity, harsh mistress that she may be, claims them. The Lady, now appearing as a delicate fairy, follows them downward, tittering with enjoyment at the results of her prank.

The adventurers plummet toward certain death! In their turn they attempt to learn to fly, threaten the Lady, grab her by the leg in a bid to slow down, windsurf, and negotiate. At length an exasperated Lady of Spices agrees to call upon some skywhale friends near the mountains to rescue the doomed creatures, whereupon said animals swoop down and save our “heroes” from a rapidly approaching doom. Having fulfilled her promise and no longer amused, the Lady of Spices takes her leave without fanfare.

Having performed their splendid rescure, the skywhales even out into level flight once more. The party, scattered across a pod of three cetaceans, gathers its wits and takes stock. Before they can regroup, a mirage dragon decloaks off the starboard bow of the lead skywhale! The dragon orders an airborne skiff of its underlings to sieze the gentle creatures for its personal menagerie. It also thinks that the kobolds will make a dandy snack, a thought that bodes ill for the skywhales intelligent passengers. As the dragon and its allies board the lead whale and attack the party members carried thereupon, they find a stiffer resistance than they expected.

One of the party’s kobolds, still in awe of the dragon, grapples a whale and tries to bring it to the dragon in the hope that the great beast will accept the gift. The whale shakes him off, however, and he abandons it in irritation.

Despite several attempts, a dragonborn fails to push the party’s monk off the edge of the whale. For his trouble he is swarmed and pushed off himself, falling toward the mountains. An archer’s misstep aboard the skiff sends him to a similar fate. As the remaining archer harasses the party with arrows, Rokjak knocks the dragon cold, and everyone brings out the big guns. The dragon wakes bloodied and near death, with a lone ally, and negotiates a surrender. Promising treasures, a fine for whale-rustling, the ownership of the skiff, and transport the Sigil for wizardly consultation, the dragon reaches an agreement with the party. It is true to its word, and all are conducted to its lair, each to recieve their agreed-upon rewards.
